Isaac Newton’s IQ is off the chart

But wait… Isaac Newton died long before IQ tests were invented, so we can’t really put an exact number on his IQ. However, when you look at the huge advances he made in both Physics and mathematics, and the typically high IQ of modern theoretical physicists and mathematicians, we can assume that his IQ is quite high.

When you are researching Newton, most people put his IQ at about the 170-190 range, which is very high, and would put him as having one of the highest IQ levels of basically anyone in history. For comparison, it’s the same as World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov. A normal intelligence quotient (IQ) ranges from 85 to 115 (According to the Stanford-Binet scale).

IQ Levels From the Past

In 1926, psychologist Dr. Catherine Morris Cox – who had been assisted by Dr. Lewis M. Terman, Dr. Florence L. Goodenaugh, and Dr. Kate Gordon – published a study “of the most eminent men and women” who had lived between 1450 and 1850 to estimate what their IQs might have been. Data from that study as well as other sources around the net were compiled to form the following list. Please drop me a comment if you have additions or corrections (make sure and cite sources).

Einstein came up with the Theory of Relativity and won a Nobel prize. What have you done to match that…

He got a nobel for photoelectric effect not relativity. He proved relativety wrong twice which almost got a German astronomer killed by the hands of Soviet.

So they apply the Flynn Effect to Goethe but not to Voltaire, Newton, Wittgenstein, Hume and Michaelangelo? I think someone here might be in love. Goethe and Leibniz should lead this list.

    Here are the corrected scores:

210 – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
205 – Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz
    205 – Emanuel Swedenborg

DaVinci’s IQ is also incorrect (although I see no hint of a Flynn Effect being applied), and is often estimated along with Leibniz and Swedenborg at 205.

Good list for a good laugh.

How ‘High’ your IQ is? That is a very arrogant statement. IQ honestly does not mean much. An IQ of a person only matters if you have a drive and humbleness too match. People with a significant drive, will out succeed a person with a very high IQ. Newton has all three, and so did Einstein.
